LIFE RHYTHMS
The Explanation
Right from the outset of the Biblical narrative, we notice that God's desire was for humanity to thrive by establishing life-giving habits and setting rhythms in their lives.
In the opening chapters of the book of Genesis, we find God establishing the following patterns:
Day and night
Seedtime and harvest
Seasons; for example, autumn, winter, spring and summer
Living by the natural rhythms that God set in place allows us to flourish in all we do.
The Practice
Pastor Rick Warren suggests the following helpful rhythm we can use to grow deeper in our walk with God and enter into God’s rest for our lives:
Divert Daily
Withdraw Weekly
Abandon Annually
“Divert daily is every day you do something that’s not work-related. You do something that relaxes you. Then you withdraw weekly. The Bible says every seven days; you take a day off. And then abandoning annually means you go out and forget it all.”
